Strengths ►
Denial; he’s become a professional at the game of denial. What with the other Nordics trying to get him to call Norway and themselves Brother Dear and other nations knocking on his door to collect the huge debt of money he owes to them. And of course, always fighting with Mr. Puffin, you have to be good at denial for that.
His poker face; He always looks calm and bored, but that sometimes serves as a cover for the on-coming surprise of his fiery temper. It leaves him at an advantage, more or less, when others can’t tell what he has plotting in his head.
Sleeping; he can practically sleep through almost anything if he wanted to. Things that could wake the dead would probably not even phase him. If something did wake him up, he’d either throw a violent temper and go back to sleep, or just roll over and go back to sleep depending on how annoyed it made him.
Swimming; After all the times he spent trying to get out of the exist of his “brother’s” under-water cave. Emil has become an excellent swimmer and pretty good at holding his breath.
Weaknesses ►
Procrastination; he’s not very good at paying back his debts or working to pay them off for that matter. He’d rather try and lure in tourist to pick-pocket and fish to gain money than do any hard work. This causes problems for not only the people who need something from him, but those who worry about him as well.
Money Management; he couldn’t manage money properly if it would save his life. This causes lots of problems in areas that he truly needs money. As far as his ability to properly control money input and out-put goes, it’d be safer to leave the job to a monkey.
Honesty; he can never truthfully be honest about how he feels -to himself or to others and it always comes out in a roundabout way that makes him hard to understand and a person that’s easily teased.
Taking care of himself; He’s got absolutely no knack for it. Having always been in his brother’s care, he isn’t use to doing things on his own and often times either forgets to feed himself or second guess himself.
Dreams ►
Emil’s dreams from most important, to least important
1. To make his brother a free man.
2. To become extremely Rich.
3. To live with his brother and their under-water home; granted it’s still standing.
4. To become better at socializing.
Fears ►
Emil’s fears from most important, to least important
1. Being abandoned by his brother.
2. Being seen as weak for depending on his brother so much.
3. Being all alone.
4. Being hated by his brother.
Personality ►
Emil’s personality is one that is not very honest at all. He’s shy so he can’t own up to things easily. Like calling Norway by the endearing term of brother dear, he’ll find any excuse he can to avoid it simply because it’s so embarrassing that he feels as if he could die from the nervous feeling it gives him in his stomach. He’ll also try to run away if he can’t avoid the upsetting and unseemly situation by staying in the place where he is.
He’s bad about being a habitual lazy because he’ll procrastinate on things he doesn’t want to do until the cows come home and he won’t even bother to find a reason to do so. He just assumes you should know better than to bother thinking that he would do anything against his own desire. If you aren’t smart enough, it’s your own tough luck. It’s bad enough that Mr. Puffin bosses him around, he doesn‘t want to take crap from anybody else unless he absolutely has to.
Emil is fairly nice though, with usually a level head. Sometimes his temper escapes him though, which it can be surprising to see his temper snap considering he always seems bored or uninterested. If he becomes attached to you, he really becomes attached to you, he‘d just sooner swim in a vat of acid than admit to being fond of you. He isn‘t unreasonable though.
He‘ll admit certain things if you make a valid point, but he shows he isn‘t happy about it.. His personality is the type that makes him in denial to the point of occasional violent, stubborn bouts but he tries not to be too violent - usually that’s only because he feels it’s too much work to waste that energy on certain people. His nature makes it hard to make friends, since he’s shy, but he tries to get along with people, for the most part.
He has a fondness for things such as the like of fishing, hunting, sleeping, stories, and drinking. The only thing that can make him love them even more is when he gets to do them with Norway -never to be admitted, of course. It would be too horrifying to admit he likes spending time with a man who tortures him to be called brother dear.
As far as the sleeping aspect goes, he’ll always demand the side of the bed closest to the wall. Despite the fact he’ll either end up using Norway as a pillow or kicking Norway off the bed entirely before the night is at and end and the morning has come. But it’s better than dealing with the monster he can be when he’s woken up from a perfectly pleasant sleep.
History ►
When Emil was a very, very young child, he was brought before a lake that the villagers usually avoided. It belonged to a fearsome sea creature. He was a sacrifice to ease the creatures hunger. Due to his silvery-white hair and violet eyes, many of the villagers thought he was a bad omen. Thus, they decided to kill two birds with one stone, get rid of two things that scared them. The freak child and the creature’s insatiable hunger.
When the creature deigned the boy who lurked nearby, behind some trees, with his presence. Well after sun-down, the creature seemingly accepted the offering, taking the small boy back to his layer. Emil put up no fight though. The small child held no delusion about the situation and about the fact everyone would be grateful for his death. However, surprisingly, the creature chose to keep him.
For this mystic and terrifying creature, it may have just been a whim…. However, for the small boy, it was a saving grace that gave him the will to want to continue to survive. The boy grew up, always at the creatures side. He even had established early on, a familial tie to the creature, calling it ‘bror’ and forcing it to socialize with humans by going into open markets.
After time flew, raising Emil to be a young man. After years of teaching his bror to get along with humans and his brother teaching him a few water based magic tricks, a ill fate came to be. Some Magic Users -the hunters of the mystical creatures. Learned of the water creatures existence -and that the water creature kept a human boy with him.
They doubted such a malicious creature would care, but their first attempt to draw the creature out was to kidnap the boy and force the creature into submission. To their utter surprise, the creature gave in and agreed to allow himself to be captured. Even for as old as Emil was at the time, it was still horrifying and nightmare inducing to see the pain the bindings put his brother in.
Monster, how should I feel? Creatures lie here, looking through the window…
Roleplay Sample ►
A young Iceland was running around, aimlessly on his own homelands. He was starting to get lonely while waiting for Norway to return from one of his voyages. He was too busy lying to himself about not being lonely to notice the nest on the ground with a white and black bird with a funny beak in it. He promptly tripped over the creature and sat holding his knee to stare at it.
Animal or not, it was rude to trip over somebody without crying so he opened his mouth to apologize, “Sor---,” but was cut off by the most obnoxious and overbearing voice that could put Denmark to shame.
The Puffin chest was puffed out at the young nation and he was threatening him, “Got some kinda problem, kid?! Ya don’t just trip over a Puffin and his nest and get away with it! But because I’m so generous, as long as you get my lots of fish I’ll over-look this little mess up.”
The bird let out a large, indignant squawk as Iceland picked him up. The bird fought valiantly but before he knew it, Iceland had already carried him home. The little nation messed up the bed sheets to form a large nest and sat in the middle, hugging the bird to his chest, “Mr. Puffin…”
