Strengths ►
- Has great perseverance - No matter what you throw at her, Sofija will keep going. She may buckle, and might be discouraged, but she will just get right on back up, no matter how miserable she is, and keep going.
- Great Throwing arm - From being taught baseball by one of her neighbors, the girl has developed a good arm and aim, and if she has something to throw, she will almost always hit the target.
- Intelligent - Despite never having a formal education, Sofija is quite smart, soaking up all the knowledge she can, which makes her more informed than most people.
- Unintentionally charming - The girl does not intend to charm people, but the fact that she goes completely out of her way and out of her comfort zone to avoid being impolite and to help others endears people to her.
- Can put up with almost anything - She can take your crap. Whether you're off dragging her to the store to use her as your living dress up doll, using her for target practice for pitching, or having her be your living seat, she will put up with it, and will not complain. Possibly ask very politely if you will stop, but not complain.
- Loyal - Once Sofija has put you on her list of friends, she will stick to you until the end, no matter how tough it is, or if she has to give up her life.
Weaknesses ►
- Physically Weak - Sofija is not very strong physically, and that is a great detriment, should she ever get in a fight.
- Living Doormat - She bends far too easily for other people, barely putting up a fight, if she does, to acquiesce to their wants.
- Easy to take advantage of - If someone just looks the slightest bit pitiable, she will be willing to help them, but, unfortunately, many people make up things to con her.
- Loyal to a fault - Not always good at reading people, Sofija may decide that someone who does not deserve it is her friend, and will bend her morals for them, or die in their stead, unknowingly being manipulated.
- Scares a bit too easily - Fairly obvious, but she's often scared when she shouldn't yet be scared (like terrified even before watching a horror movie), or jumps at the littlest things, no matter how much she tries to hide it.
- A bit mentally scarred, as well as a tad on the unstable side - Due to bad experiences in her past, Sofija is a tad too wary, and suffers from emotional breakdowns when she is alone for too long.
Dreams ►
- To find someone who will love her - As the only person who really, truly cared for her, her dad, is now dead, Sofija longs for someone else who will love her, whether as a friend or as a lover.
- To get a pet - Knowing that those creatures sold as pets are more powerful than humans, she wants one to protect her. She'll treat them well, like they're a roommate and not a pet, for the most part, but they'll help keep the nightmares at bay.
- To become an author - Ever since she heard her first story, Sofija has always seen writing and publishing a book to be one of the best things ever, as everyone, if they want to, can read a story that she has written from her heart.
- Her mother locked away or dead - While she doesn't like to wish bad things upon people, Sofija will never be able to live peacefully, without feeling like her mother will come out of nowhere and ruin her life.
Fears ►
- Her mother - From all the bad memories of childhood, being both emotionally and physically abused by her, and from fear of the fact she'll come out of nowhere and ruin her life, Sofija is quite scared of her mother.
- The Darkness - While normally this is a childish fear that is gone by the age of twenty, she used to have so many nightmares in the past of her father forever disappearing into the darkness of the mines, never to come back, and the fact that the mines did contribute to his death has not helped the comparison.
- Whips or anything like it - Once she realized that what her mother did wasn't common, it became her mother's punishment of choice, leaving her with many scars on her back and a great fear of it.
- Dogs - When she was about seven, one of her neighbor's dogs got infected with rabies, and they ended up having to gun the mad thing down, right on her lawn, and it terrified the crap out of her. Being the young, impressionable thing that she was at the time, the fear has stuck with her.
Personality ►
Sofija is a very quiet, polite girl. She always worries about being rude to people, and usually chooses her words very carefully, not wanting to offend anyone. The girl doesn’t like being in massive crowds of people, but she doesn’t like being alone, either, preferring to be around one or two people. She’s quite friendly, always willing to strike up a conversation with someone, but often internally wary, almost always on her guard. Sofija is a bit of a doormat, steamrolling over her own desires in order to make people more comfortable, and is quite easy to take advantage of.
On the inside, the side that she doesn’t often show to anyone, Sofija is an extremely scared, lonely person. She feels quite alone, and actually is, desperately longing for someone that will like her for her, and not ever leave her. The girl also wants someone to protect her, someone very strong, and that is why she desires a pet, in hopes that they will be able to chase the nightmares away. She doesn’t consider them less than humans, and honestly, really doesn’t know what to think of them, but she has realized many, in fact, most of them are stronger than humans, and would feel far safer if she had one.
While all of the above, Sofija is not a judging person; a bit wary of people, yes, but never judging. She’ll often dismiss very obvious things, simply to make someone else more comfortable. The girl scares a tad too easily, especially over things that seem insignificant, yet doesn’t usually frighten over things that would actually be scary to other people. While she is a good person, at heart, Sofija doesn’t always care for the laws put up, and will dismiss them without feeling guilty, unless she is harming another person by it. In that case, she would stay up for many nights, tossing and turning, and having guilt consume her.
History ►Born to a loving father and an abusive mother, Sofija’s life alternated between perfect and absolutely hellish. Whenever she was with her father, who was a miner, he would treat her the best, never taking his eyes off his ‘beloved little Princess’, and generally giving her anything she could ever want or need. However, when she was with her mother, she was degraded, insulted, and verbally and emotionally abused. For a while, she thought this was normal, that the father was the nice one, and the mother was the mean one, and that was how life worked, though she swore to herself she wouldn’t be a mean mother. Of course, that was all shattered when she went to a neighbor’s house, needing to be baby sat, and met a very nice mother, one totally different from her own. Upon returning, she asked her mother why there was such a difference in the niceness levels, and then met her first contact with a whip.
Life continued on like that, with Sofija trying more and more to stay by her father, as her mother tolerated her when in his presence, not acting like he did, but far more restrained. And whenever she was particularly ‘bad’, more scars were added to the ones that littered her back, and she retreated farther and farther into her shell. All that changed one day. Her father had finished his work early, and came home, only to walk in on the sight of his wife whipping their daughter. Enraged, he forced her out of the house, and the two quickly packed up and moved, leaving her in the dust.
Everything could have been perfect, then, with Sofija and her father living alone, and him getting a job as an assistant carpenter… But his former job had had a lasting toll on him, the mines having destroyed his lungs, and he slowly began to fade away, finally dying when Sofija was seventeen years old. Still a minor, and not having much proper schooling, simply being taught by her father, the girl was supposed to go to the custody of her mother once more, as the two of them hadn’t reported her, simply left. Terrified by this prospect, Sofija fled, taking everything she deemed important with her, not even able to stay for her father’s funeral. She did not want to go back to her, even if she had to kill herself to stop it.
As such, she wandered and traveled for three years, not stopping even once she was no longer a minor, still with that fear she would have to see her mother again. Several times, she had seen old missing posters for her, and every time, pulled them down. That was what prompted her to grow out her hair, as she used to wear it fairly short, and it made quite a difference in her appearance. Finally, just before she turned twenty, Sofija bought a small house with her inheritance, hoping that she was far enough away, and both long enough gone, that she would never see her mother again. Gaining a job at the local bakery, she decided to accomplish her next goal: Getting a pet.
Monster, how should I feel? Creatures lie here, looking through the window…
Roleplay Sample ►
Sofija attempted to quietly read her book, but it was so hard to concentrate. Poland had left, going shopping for groceries or something like that, and now the house was far too quiet. As much as she got pulled around by her friend, and as much as it seemed she got irritated with her lack of responsibility, she really did care for the other, deeply, and hated it when she wasn’t around. She felt… so lacking, unable to defend herself, so afraid, so vulnerable… The nation wanted the other, so badly, so she could be distracted, from both her fragileness and from the pain littering her back.
Could she call someone else? No, not her sisters, they thought she was strong, and she couldn’t break that façade. Everyone thought she was strong, except for her dearest friend. Ukraine? Maybe, but he’d just cry, or something like that, maybe try to fix it with a home-cooked meal… But no, it’d get back to his siblings, and she didn’t want that. Russia? Belarus? No, those two scared him beyond belief, especially the latter, when he broke her hand for nervously asking him to go on a date. She was no masochist, and that had turned her off to those two siblings, the ones who loved inflicting pain upon her.
America was a possibility… But would the other nation know what to do, to help a scared and vulnerable Lithuania? No, as much as she had enjoyed working for the other girl, the other wasn’t very good at the kind of stuff. Curling in on herself, Sofija trembled, waiting for Poland to come home. She didn’t want to be alone…
