[/u][/size]His little whispers. Love me. Love me. That’s all I ask for. Love me. Love me.
►►Im Sang Kyu
Nation ► The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea // North Korea
Human Name ► Im Sang Kyu / Im Sang Hee(?)
Age ► Approximately 21-22 by appearance, but in actuality, he is about 83 in human years; five-hundred in fox years, which grants him five tails.
Gender ► Male (and also female by kumiho powers)
Species ►
Kumiho
After 100 years, a kumiho will gain the ability to take on the form of a human. Very often this form will be that of a woman, as the fox requires sustenance in the form of gi, the energy and life force found in all creatures. However, it is also possible to transform into a man in order to seduce women as well, though the female form is more common. The creatures have been known to feed on the livers of humans, where the most of their energy pools, in order to gain more power, fueling legends of evil fox demons that kill and devour those they seduce. Even in human-like form, these creatures still maintain something "foxy" about them, and are able to manifest tails and ears, even in this form. Every hundred years they will gain a new tail, with the ultimate goal being to live long enough to sport nine of them.
Description ►
You don't get a picture 'cause I'm insecure about my art right now. :C
Sang Kyu is rather light and skinny, his build being that of your stereotypical runner—lean and slim, but still muscular. His body supports the minimum amount of fat that you could have at his body weight and still be considered healthy. Or at least, mostly healthy. And yet, some days he still manages to look like a skeleton. This is most likely due to his often tired appearance causing him to look a bit…crazy, for lack of a better word. Despite being skinny however, he’s very physically strong due to his obsession with physical training to try and make up for his small size.
His hair is sleek and dark brown – almost black – with his bangs pushed out of his face. Some time ago, his hair was longer and he kept it in a braid, which he carefully maintained every day. Though, at some point he got sick of it always getting in the way and the struggle to braid it every morning, and he came to the decision to simply cut most of it off. All that remains of this is a very short ponytail, and if he were to wear his hair down it would just reach his shoulders. He also bears a curl similar to Yong Soo’s—an annoying little fly-away that won’t stay down no matter how hard he tries—though Sang Kyu’s curls a bit more at the end.
Dark circles can often be seen under his eyes, as Sang Kyu is insomniac. When he’s not being overly-paranoid and actually does try to go to bed and get some sleep, he often has bad dreams, meaning he rarely gets a full night's sleep. His face is thin and he rarely smiles; any sort of smile he does crack is usually either a) fake, or b) genuine but at the unfortunate expense of someone else. A genuine, truly happy smile from him is indeed an event to be remembered. Other than that, he’s often seen with a rather blank, uninterested expression on his face. He sees no need to wear his emotions on his sleeve. From what he’s found, that can only cause trouble because everyone knows how you feel, and thus, can discern possible weaknesses from the way you act.
As for how he dresses, he tends to choose more muted, earthy colors such as gray, white, and brown, though he will occasionally branch out into something a bit brighter such as a dark red or blue. Most of his clothes are a bit too big for him, hanging off his bony shoulders usually. He is alright with this though, as he likes the feeling of security he gets from being able to hide in clothes that are somewhat baggy. He usually wears pants and long sleeves, no matter what the weather, and will sometimes conceal things in sleeves that are much too long.
As Sang Hee, she maintains much of the same body structure, not really losing too much of her height with the gender switch. Still wiry and slim, she keeps the structure of a runner or perhaps even a gymnast. However, in her female form, she prefers to wear her hair (which has grown considerably longer) down, believing that long hair looks better on a girl and she might as well show it. The curl also remains, though it has more of a tendency to hang downwards because of her hair's increased length. She is probably even less likely to smile than her male counter part, as she usually only takes on her female form when it involves getting close to men (which she abhors) in order to feed. As for how she dresses, she actually trades the looser clothing of her male counter part for slightly more body-clinging clothing, realizing that in order to get close enough to men to feed, she's going to have to be a bit seductive. The colors she chooses for her clothing are still similar however; muted colors, dark colors, and black.
In fox form, the Korean sports reddish-orange fur with black points (ears, muzzle, feet, and a section of each tail) as well as a white underbelly and tail tip. In fox form, there will be five tails, and when in pseudo-human form, it is possible to manifest these tails as well.
Like Yong Soo, the marks of his enslavement are two metal bands around his wrists, which he tries to keep hidden at all costs.
He battered his tiny fist to feel something. Wondered what it’s like to touch and feel something.

★Tradition:
It’s so hard for him to let go of old ways. He hates change.
★ Music:
Something he enjoys, but is very picky about. He will usually favor soothing songs over jaunty ones, though sometimes (meaning, when he’s upset) he will gravitate towards more angry sounding music.
★Reading:
It’s a nice quiet activity he can do alone, and this is actually how he usually gets other people to go away when he doesn’t want them around. Most people won’t bother you when they see you reading.
★Kimchi:
His favorite food ever. It’s a traditional Korean food, which he absolutely cannot resist. This stuff is like gold to him.
★Technology:
He’s fascinated by all the things you can do with it and has toyed with it before, but he’s not very good at inventing his own things. Most of it falls apart. Nonetheless, he tries. He also tries to stay on top of all the new technology news, even if he knows he’ll never be able to get a hold of any of it.
★Tea:
Where some people have a coffee addiction, he’s got a tea addiction. It’s basically all he drinks, but he drinks all different kinds of it. Usually, he’ll drink only hot tea unless it’s green tea, which he can tolerate cold. Either way, he refuses to ruin it by putting sugar or anything along those lines in his tea. However, on occasion, when a certain, unexplainable mood strikes him, he may put a spoonful of honey in it.
★Bright Colors:
Though he would never admit it, he has a secret fondness for them. He usually wears more muted colors because he believes he would look idiotic wearing something bright and colorful, but deep down, he really does enjoy those sort of colors. Just not on clothing. Anywhere else though, like signs, lights, fireworks, double rainbows, etc.—he will love them.
★Peace and Quiet:
He will hate anyone who disturbs his peace. He likes to be alone with his thoughts. He can’t do that when people are butting into his quiet space and making a ruckus.
★Poetry:
He tries to keep this a secret and rarely speaks about it. He doesn’t really write any, but he’s fascinated with how words can evoke feelings in a person even with them often being so vague. He doesn’t really write any of his own, but he studies it a lot and will sometimes use somewhat poetic terms in his speech, but usually only when he’s worked up over something. It’s really more of a propaganda/persuasive thing for him.
★Power and Control:
He likes to have things go his way. He’s convinced that his way will always work, and thus, tries to do what he can to have it happen that way. No one else’s way is acceptable, and so everyone else must follow his orders. Clearly he is right.
★Getting Away With Things:
There’s nothing better than the adrenaline from getting away with something you know you’re not supposed to be doing. He’s become a master at sneaking around and causing trouble, as well as finding the easiest possible escape route.
Dislikes ►
✖Social Situations:
He hates being put on the spot, AKA, talking. He doesn’t like to do the talking or lead a conversation. He runs out of stuff to say pretty quickly since he’s usually rather blunt, and will leave the conversation at an awkward dead-end when forced to speak.
✖ Feeling Cornered:
Whether that’s physically or emotionally or in a conversation or what, he hates running out of options, because that means he needs help. Or that he was wrong. And that’s a blow to his pride. Unacceptable. Alternatively, instead of simply being annoyed that he has to ask for help or admit he was wrong, in more serious situations he will begin to feel helpless and may panic.
✖Being Wrong:
He always has to be right. ALWAYS.
✖Being Ignored:
Despite him preferring being alone over being around a bunch of people, he hates when he’s ignored. If he’s trying to get your attention and you’re ignoring him, he’ll do what he can to get it, even if it’s slightly unorthodox. He hates the feeling you get when it seems like people forget you exist. It leaves him feeling terribly empty inside.
✖ Idiots:
They are the scourge of society.
✖ Noise:
Life has an awful tendency to get loud when he wants it quiet. Which is most of the time. How very convenient…
✖ Americans:
Loud, arrogant pigs.
✖ His Brother:
Yong Soo tends to be annoying and obnoxious…all the time. Which is worse than normal idiots because Sang Kyu doesn’t have to be related to them, so eventually they will go away. But this idiot happens to be related to him, so he’s there. All. The. Time. They’re bros deep down though.
✖ Syrup:
Ew, overly sweet and nasty. He can’t stand its thickness or its sweetness, preferring salty or spicy food instead.
Strengths ►
♦ Stoic:
He does his best never to show fear (even the largest or most thuggish of fellows will get only a mildly disturbed expression out of him, even if he’s actually terrified). As a result he can usually hide when things are beginning to get bad for him in a tricky situation, and he's able to deceive his enemies about his situation long enough to find a solution to the problem, or at the very least a way to lessen the threat.
♦ Protective:
If he's got something worth protecting, whether it's his family or some sort of treasure or what, he's going to do what he can to protect it. If it’s important to him, he won’t give it up without one hell of a fight.
♦ Determination:
Once he starts something, he will finish it. This is partially because of the feeling of success after completing something, partially because of his pride, and partially because he hates having to rely on others. The best way to make sure something gets done is to do it yourself, after all.
♦ Controlling:
He likes to have things go his way. The way he usually handles this sort of thing—in a take-no-prisoners sort of fashion— most people don’t ask questions.
♦ Tactical and Resourceful:
He can get what he wants usually, even if it's risky for him and all else involved. He plays a bad hand extremely well. He doesn't have to have a lot to work with— he will use whatever he has, whether that's a loophole in an agreement or good-guy/bad-guy sort of play or very limited resources or bargaining tools. If he needs something desperately, he will do something drastic to get the attention he needs to bargain for it. If he’s acting aggressively, as in a fight, he tends to launch attacks on places that are hard to defend from places that are hard to attack.
♦ Ridiculously Stubborn:
He sticks to his guns, even if things are looking bleak for him.
♦ Sneaky:
He's become a master at smuggling things into places where he’s not supposed to have them, sometimes even having the payments pass through places in broad sight and no one ever suspect a thing. He’s also been known to disguise junk as things of value in order to make a quick buck.
♦ Strong and good in hand-to-hand combat:
He’s trained in tae kwon do and spends a lot of his free time working out.
♦ Hand-Eye Coordination:
Pretty good shot with any sort of projectile weapon, if he can get his hands on one.
Kumiho Related:
► Ability to shift into fox form. Makes for quick escape into places normal humans can't reach.
►Ability to switch genders. Useful in many situations.
►Ability to create illusions.
Weaknesses ►
♦ Terrible liar:
And yet, even if all the evidence points to him, he will still not admit to doing anything. He likes to leave that little shred of doubt that maybe, just maybe, he didn’t actually do it.
♦ Ridiculously Stubborn:
Despite this being a major strength for him, he will actually stick it out on his own for so long that it could possibly endanger him. Eventually, he will probably bring about his own destruction because he'll be too stubborn in a situation where relenting is the only way out.
♦ Controlling:
Even if it lets him get what he wants, it also keeps him from seeing that he's wrong. It also leads him into some pretty bleak situations.
♦ Second Guessing:
As stubborn as he is, he still second guesses himself, though this usually occurs before he makes a final decision about anything and causes him to get really stressed.
♦ Stress:
He does not handle stress well. He will worry over things, and it will eat away at him until he just doesn’t know what to do with himself anymore. Sang Kyu has a tendency to isolate himself when this happens, or else find quiet, secluded places where he can be alone and worry in private. But really, all being alone does is make him more stressed, but he doesn’t seem to realize this, continuing to believe that he doesn’t need anyone else’s help.
♦ Extreme Distrust:
He rarely trusts anyone anymore. He will gaze upon friends and strangers alike with looks of suspicion, believing that no one can ever be 100% trusted. This often causes him to turn people down when they're genuinely trying to help him.
♦ Jealousy:
He is easily jealous and perhaps a bit insecure. So, he tries to make himself feel better by being a bully, which only causes people to turn against him more.
♦ He might not be 100% sane.
On the outside, he will usually seem calm and calculating, but if you catch him when he's really upset, he probably looks like he's about to lose it. When he gets like this, he will throw caution to the wind and act entirely on impulse, on his first instinct. As you can imagine, that sort of irrationality doesn’t always end well.
♦ Fears being alone.
Despite how independent he tries to be, and how he actually tends to avoid other people, he fears being absolutely and completely alone. It makes him feel even more helpless than being cornered. He needs to feel like someone’s there for him; that he has that back up somewhere, even if he would never admit needing it.
♦ Insomniac:
He has trouble sleeping, and he refuses to take medicine for it. Because he can't sleep, he's irritable, often lacks good judgment, and this just causes him to be that much more irrational.
♦ Introverted:
He has trouble making friends.
♦ Practically no social skills.
He’s probably one of the most socially awkward turtles you’ve ever seen.
♦Well, he's...
Extremely. Freaking. Paranoid.

Dreams ►
✪ Happiness:
He hopes to one day find that perfect situation that will allow him to be happy. Perhaps a way that allows him to blend into human society without having to actually be around them or kill them. Just so that he can live peacefully and not be hunted as 'that evil fox demon.'
✪ To Be Free:
Free from imprisonment by those he despises. Being owned and controlled by humans leaves him feeling more cornered and hopeless than ever. Not only can he not do everything he wants, but he's the one being controlled. He likes to be the one in control.
✪ Reconciliation With Yong Soo:
He would like to be on better terms with his brother, yes. However, he is afraid of what it will take to get there, and that they will never be able to understand and accept the other for doing the things they do, considering how stubborn they both are.
✪ Nine Tails:
It would be wonderful to have the magic and strength that comes along with achieving such. The pride he would feel achieving such a task wouldn't be too bad either, not to mention it would make him feel like he was in control, once again.
Fears ►
☣Running Out of Options:
In other words, he fears being cornered. He fears being put in a situation in which he has no choice but to give in to an opposing force, as well as the feeling of helplessness that comes with it. That thought terrifies him.
☣Abandonment:
Having back up is his solution to the above fear. He feels like if there’s someone else there for him, all will be well. But if that sense of security were to suddenly vanish, well…
☣Hospitals:
If there is anything that makes him feel helpless, it’s being sick or injured and placing his life in the hands of a complete stranger. A complete stranger who possesses possible instruments of torture if utilized in the right way.
☣Humiliation:
Having to admit he was wrong is a major source of humiliation for him, which is why he always tries to avoid running out of options or becoming cornered. Of course, humiliation also applies to others humiliating him, which he would definitely hold a grudge for.

Personality ►
Not really one for social conversation, Sang Kyu keeps mostly to himself. He has a general dislike for people and is rather paranoid and distrustful, so it’s not uncommon to see him sitting on the side lines at social gatherings. Usually, however, he will not even attend such gatherings, preferring the peace and quiet of his own thoughts to the chaos that seems to happen whenever he decides to go somewhere. Whenever he does happen to get involved in a conversation, he tends to be more of a listener than a talker, letting whoever he’s conversing with lead the conversation and giving his opinion only when he feels it’s needed or when it’s asked for. Most of his answers are short and to the point, and he very rarely rambles unless he feels very strongly about something, in which cases, he has a tendency to lecture and ramble. Overall, he’s a rather awkward person to have a talk with and tends to scare off any unsuspecting person who may’ve been willing to talk with him.
Usually, Kyu is very calm in appearance, but this can change very quickly. He’s a give-what-you-get type of guy, and has no problems settling little issues (even if they were accidents; he doesn’t care) on the spot. He’s a strong believer in ‘an eye for an eye,’ and thus, has no qualms with taking revenge. However, very often he will attempt to take more than ‘an eye for an eye’. Short tempered and rather vengeful, he’s likely to start fights or escalate situations that simply started as arguments or misunderstandings into one, though he often shows much more bark than bite when it comes to actually following through with his threats. Once he gets worked up, it can be difficult to get him to calm down again. Once he does calm down though, he will usually quietly keep to himself until an opportunity for him to escape to a more peaceful place arises.
Quite the loner, he makes few friends, but holds the ones he does make very close. Everyone else is simply an acquaintance to him, and he would not care one way or another if he never saw them again in his life. Being the independent soul that he is, he’s stubborn and often refuses help, claiming he can do it all himself without anyone else’s stupid assistance. Even if he truly does need it. He will rarely back down from a challenge unless the paranoia kicks in and makes him suspect this is some kind of trap, in which case he will try and weasel the situation into something more in his own favor. However, he is still easily baited and does not take blows to his pride well, which often causes him to hold grudges.
And grudges, yes, he holds a lot of them, and he rarely lets them go. Sang Kyu will have one bad run-in with a person, and after that his relationship with that person is pretty much in the dumps. He doesn’t forget. He rarely forgives. Sang Kyu doesn’t like being opposed or otherwise messed with, and his short temper often causes him to threaten or verbally abuse those who cross him. He can actually get pretty loud when angry despite his usually quiet attitude. His voice is usually soft and fairly monotone, but always has a slightly tense undertone, like he could snap any minute. Sometimes, he will not even bother to hide his displeasure and simply take on a rude tone for the sheer sake of you knowing exactly what he thinks of you.
He often appears expressionless (or on days when he does show emotion, annoyed), and tends to only give small pieces of insight, keeping most of his thoughts to himself. When he does decide to share what’s on his mind though, he’s usually fairly honest, sometimes brutally so. Often he will come off as rude with his bluntness, even if he doesn’t mean it. However, he is always very polite with his elders… Or those whose opinion of him he cares about at least. Otherwise, he has no problems showing flat out disrespect and impoliteness. If he doesn’t like you, he’ll make sure you know.
Sang Kyu, to put it simply, likes to be a bother. He’s rather immature in this sense; often doing things simply to get on other people’s nerves when he’s bored (which is often). Other’s misfortune is entertaining to him, whether he caused it or not. A definite sadist, and a probable masochist, he could accurately be considered a bully, or at the very least, a troublemaker. The rules of society often don’t matter to him. What he just did was uncalled for? Oh well.
As Sang Hee, the Korean maintains much the same attitude, although Sang Hee is all business whereas Sang Kyu can be known to do some things with the intention of being entertained. Sang Hee is generally much quicker to anger than when in male form. This is mainly due to the fact that she goes to feed in female form. She tends to choose drunks or people who are otherwise too far out of it to remember her when she goes to feed, and thus, has seen society at its lowest, most disgusting points. Not only does this put her in a generally bad mood, but it also makes her dread going to feed in this way. Men, even the more decent ones, she's come to loathe. Men are smelly, disgusting, sex-crazed creatures, as she's come to learn.
Of course, that doesn't mean she doesn't hate women too. She's definitely a loner, finding men disgusting and women to be just as horrible as men (though pleasantly cleaner). Equally rude or arrogant women will cause her to become...competitive, if it can be described as such. Either way, it will definitely bring out the worst in her.
It is also in this form, that she becomes what her species are known for...the bad side of them. In other words, the evil seductress that will kill and devour her victims. She found, some time ago, that the livers of humans contain the most gi, and that by eating them, a kumiho will stay fuller for longer. This seemed the perfect solution to her problem--no longer would she have to spend as much time around those she loathed simply to feed. And so, it is in this form that she plays the part of the evil seductress, walking into bars and charming men that she figures no one will miss. She then invites them out back for "a good time," at which point her eyes take on a strange glint, she slips a knife between their ribs, shifts into fox form and eats her fill.
Of course, at one time, the Korean was a much lighter character who was merely soft-spoken and serious. Being the quiet, calmer person that Sang Kyu was, he did have a sort of “wall” up around himself, though at that time it also encompassed his brother, as he was very protective of his family. Though, as time went on, he pulled that wall closer and closer to himself as he became more and more introverted with every passing event, pushing out most of the rest of his family as he isolated himself, until one day, he snapped and pushed Yong Soo out of it as well. He and his brother have grown distant, and he tends to blame his brother for everything that goes wrong between the two of them, believing none of it could ever be his own fault. But deep down, Sang Kyu really does care about him, even if they don’t always get along. He really does wish they would get along better, but his paranoia and general tendency to snap will be major hurdles for them ever making things well between the two of them again.
History ►
Note: It will probably be necessary to check over Yong Soo's history as well, since a lot of this is covered there as well.
In the midst of Japanese occupancy of the Korean Peninsula, twin fox kits were born in a quaint den in the backwoods of the mountains of Korea, knowing no more than the warmth of their mother and the scent of her fur. The first one hundred years (fox years; same as sixteen human years) were spent as nothing more than foxes, most of their lives lived by instinct alone rather than intelligent thought.
Sang Kyu can recall little of his fox years because of this. Occasionally he will have a flashback of something painfully simple—a patch of copper fur in the darkness of the den, the sound of leaves crunching under his paws, chasing his brother through the trees for reasons he cannot remember… But the memories are so distant that they seem like tendrils of a dream slipping away just after awaking from a deep sleep.
By some miracle, the twins survived the day to day chaos of the forest and the constant threat of being hunted down and killed by humans. The day they were first able to shift into their new forms was when Sang Kyu and his brother were first able to think and comprehend as humans, gaining a new intelligence and higher thought. Sang Kyu’s first memory as a human is rolling his eyes at Yong Soo’s stupid comment about him being somewhat shorter than the other, something he still holds against him somewhat.
The next few years of their lives were spent learning the ways of the Kumiho—how to shift to and from human form, as well as between genders. They learned the art of illusion, how to sense gi, and how feed off of such energy, a technique Sang Kyu was never fond of. The only thing that drove him to learn this method of sustenance was the simple need to survive. Considering socializing with humans more of a chore than an enjoyable activity, Sang Kyu was considerably less eager to go about learning the ways of human society than his brother. He even closed himself off from the Kumiho Nabi’s two human mates, showing little concern when the two eventually died due to the drain of life energy from them that had been the result of living with the Kumiho.
As time went on, he opened up only slightly—just enough to get out into the world and feed, although reluctantly. Every human was regarded with suspicion… Every person on the street was a potential hunter or government official or magic user who would not hesitate to go searching for the den if it was discovered that either of the brothers or their mother were Kumiho. As far as he was concerned, Yong Soo was risking all their lives by getting so close and intimate with humans, and he would argue with his brother for hours about this. It was a dangerous game that he himself preferred not to play, and so, he was always careful to choose those who would either not remember his female form later or would not be around to report it if they became suspicious. Bars and taverns became the kumiho’s location of choice when seeking out such humans, hoping drunks would just be out for a good time and not care if they never saw whoever they were getting frisky with again.
It was also that sort of thinking that caused him to loathe the human race. The male human’s tendency to be sexed crazed and drown themselves in soju and sake forever ruined his view of them, causing him to wait irrational lengths of time before finally dragging himself out to go find some bumbling drunk to steal energy from. Eventually the kumiho began to get skinny from waiting so long to feed, though he attempted to hide this by hiding under clothes that were long and flowy or otherwise hung loosely off of him. He knew what he was doing to himself though. It occurred to Sang Kyu that he would not make it long enough to gain the coveted nine tails if this continued. Either he would die from not feeding or die because his identity was discovered. His outlook on life became increasingly bleak...
It was a night on which he was in a particularly horrible mood that he finally found a gruesome solution to the problem. Sang Hee had been at one of the local bars, as usual, to find a source to feed from. The man she had chosen, though she had not realized it at the time, was a rather angry drunk. A rather angry, sex-crazed drunk with a knife. The man had taken her out back and was attempting to flirt with her, but the kumiho, already irritated by having to be around him in the first place, was not quite cooperating.
The man attempted to kiss her, which, understandably, Sang Hee found repulsive, the man’s breath smelling strongly of alcohol and cigarettes and various other ingredients commonly found in Korean food—a potent mixture that she could not stand. She shoved him away, deciding that finding a cleaner man would be more worth her time than a man who would most certainly not remember her the next day due to the amount he’d drunk. But the man was persistent, and after Sang Hee had refused several more times, he became violent.
After her last refusal, the man shoved her up against the wall of the building and pressed a blade to her throat, threatening to kill her if she didn’t submit to him. Of course, Sang Hee would have none of it, and suddenly grabbed the hand with the knife and grappled with him until she was able to wrestle the weapon away from him. Her small size did little to help her after that though, the man easily overpowering her, though forgetting she’d taken his weapon in his drunken state. In desperation, she slashed at him with the knife several times, stopping only after she felt the liquid heat of blood on her hands and the man go limp.
Panting and shaken from the fight, she pulled herself from under the body and pressed her back into the wall as she attempted to get a hold of herself once more. But there was something off about the atmosphere around her. Even with the man dead, it seemed that gi energy was stronger than usual, and upon looking around, she noticed that she’d actually somehow managed to slice the guy open to the point that his entrails were beginning to spill out. She’d put off feeding for so long now that it hardly mattered what the source of the gi was. She nearly reflexively shifted back into fox form as instinct took over and spent several minutes rooting around the body until she’d found the source of the energy—the liver. Of course, once she’d found all that energy, she wasted no time in completing the gruesome task of devouring it, and once she’d fed herself, her feral nature began to subside, and she was able once more to transform into a human, though it didn’t change the fact that she was covered in blood.
To solve this problem, she hastily fled the scene, shoving the body behind a dumpster and retrieving the knife, thinking it could be of some use if she was pursued by police or angry villagers. She ran into the woods and continued to run until she reached a stream, at which point she stripped and promptly flung herself into its cleansing waters, watching by the light of the moon as the redness of blood was swept downstream. Once she’d redressed herself and found a place to conceal the knife amongst the folds of her clothing, she picked her way through the woods to the place she’d agreed to meet Yong Soo, shifting back into a male along the way.
Yong Soo noticed something off about him almost the moment he’d arrived, but Sang Kyu was in no mood to answer questions, still shaken by the night’s events. When his brother continued to press him for answers, he eventually snapped at him to leave him alone, the interrogation doing nothing to better his mood. Once Yong Soo had finally shut up, the two of them walked home in an uneasy silence.
In the coming days, Sang Kyu noticed that he was not being bothered by the hunger pangs that would usually begin to strike him about a week after feeding. Actually, it seemed as if he were not having them at all. He seemed to generally be in a better mood, and would put up less of a fight when his brother dragged him out on outings, though he still seemed reluctant to do any more than sit on the sidelines when it came to interacting on humans. He did, however, attempt to fake it about once a week, to keep the illusion that he was still feeding even though he had not had the need to in a while.
Once a month, for several months, Sang Kyu instead took to the streets with the knife he’d gotten off the drunk on the night he’d discovered the power of the liver’s gi. And so, it became once a month that he’d simply take a drunk of his choice out back, slip the blade between their ribs, and shift into fox form to avoid the awkwardness of feeding as a human. The string of murders began to raise suspicions among bar owners, but Sang Kyu was careful to finish his work and leave the scene quickly so as to leave as slim a chance of being discovered as possible.
On the night he finally was discovered, however, he was discovered not by authorities, but by Yong Soo. Unbeknownst to Sang Hee, Soo Yong had left her usual socializing earlier than usual. Sang Hee had recently seduced a drunk, young soldier and had managed to convince him to follow her out back for some “fun.” The man, expecting a kiss or maybe even sex, had put up little fight, and was soon dead on the ground with his belly sliced open. She was in fox form and feeding when a small, but undeniably human, noise of shock jolted her from her feeding. When she realized who it was who had interrupted, she shifted back into a human, switching gender along the way.
Sang Kyu quickly redressed himself and hid the body of the drunken man, then returned for his brother and dragged his shocked twin down the road towards home.
Once they were safely away from the lights and people of the villages, Sang Kyu began to explain himself. All his reasoning that feeding on the human’s livers was safer—that it kept them fuller for longer, that it did less to put their family in danger because the main witnesses of them being about at all would be dead when everything was said and done. But Yong Soo wouldn’t buy it. The two of them argued, hurtful insults hurled out by both sides, until Yong Soo finally screamed out that Sang Kyu was a monster.
As soon as the word’s had left his mouth, it was obvious that Sang Kyu was done with the argument, the blood-stained twin staring at his brother icily. No, his efforts to find a method that did not risk his or his family’s safety were clearly of no significance to a brother who thought him a monster. Without another word, he shifted back into a fox and disappeared into the forest, taking refuge in an abandoned den for the night.
In the coming weeks, Sang Kyu simply traveled in one direction (which ended up being north) mindlessly, turning into a human only to seduce and feed, otherwise retaining his fox form. His goal was nothing more than to get as far away from his former home as possible. That and to survive.
For many years afterwards, Sang Kyu had become trapped in what had become North Korea. In his quest to simply go North and not stop, he’d managed to evade battle fields and mines and artillery by some miracle, and had actually crossed over into the North at some point. Upon the end of the war however, he found himself trapped in the Hermit Nation, unable to leave due to the nations strict policy of allowing few in and even fewer out. Even in fox form, the electric fences and mine ridden fields along both the border with the South and China dissuaded him from attempting to cross either border.
North Koreans did not exactly make for good feeding though. As the country’s economy went downhill and food became scarce for its residents, Sang Kyu began to notice that even the gi he harvested by means of eating livers was not nearly as strong as it had once been, the North Korean’s life forces not as strong due to the starvation and malnutrition that now plagued the country. Sang Kyu was having to feed more and more often to keep himself sustained, and with government officials and military personnel at virtually every turn, it was becoming clear to him that either he would eventually starve or he would be shot like a dog when he was discovered. He began to consider defection once again…
A few months later, he joined a group of North Koreans planning to defect. With any luck, they’d be able to escape at the Chinese border as many had before them. But as the group neared the border with China, a DPRK military patrol spotted and pursued them. One of the guards had an attack dog, which instantly caught onto the fox scent clinging to Sang Kyu and pursued him. The sudden, abrasive sound of the dog’s barking startled him back into fox form, to the astonishment of the guards. The rest of the defectors were forgotten as the patrol chased the dog and fleeing kumiho into the woods.
Sang Kyu, becoming desperate, dove into an abandoned hole beneath a tree, which, luckily, was too small for the large dog to fit into. Scooting into the farthest corner of the den, he managed to avoid the snapping jaws of the dog until the patrol arrived and was able to put the dog back on it’s leash.
He wasn’t free however. The North Korean patrol had seen him shift, and, now realizing he was a kumiho, had special plans for him. Instead of killing him as they might’ve done if he’d been caught in the more prosperous South, the North Koreans saw an opportunity to make some cash. The DPRK was in need of money…and selling a rare creature on the black market would be an easy way to make a quick buck. They called up the nearest magic user (who was in nearby China, ironically enough), and kept Sang Kyu cornered in the den using the dog until he could arrive to bind the kumiho. By the next morning, Sang Kyu was being shipped off to some far off place, his goal to leave North Korea realized, but in the worst way possible.
Monster, how should I feel? Creatures lie here, looking through the window…

Hi, I'm lazy and pulled this from an old thread at a history forum.
► Cold War Conference, 1976
A small droplet of water spattered against the window of the car. Then another. Then another—until a few small drops turned into a steady stream of them exploding across the glass of the window. The window was beginning to become slightly fogged from his breath. He rested his forehead against the glass and stared out at the buildings as they whipped by, observing as lights from other cars and the city were distorted by the water droplets that clung to the window, each one seemingly filled with small, amorphous splotches of color.
He was running late. Thanks to a bit of a flight delay due to equally lousy weather back home, and some incompetent employees at the sorry excuse for an airport he’d landed in, they were now trying to make up time on their way to the meeting. Im Sang Kyu glanced up, meeting the driver’s eyes in the rearview mirror. At least the hired driver was decent enough.
With a small sigh, he allowed his head to once again lean against the cool glass of the window. He wasn’t exactly excited about this meeting. Why on earth would he want to be in a room with a bunch of capitalists? One of whom—America—he had been fighting against in Vietnam not even a year earlier? War was still fresh in his blood; hatred was still fresh in his heart. Mulling it over in his mind, he found that possibly the only good thing about choosing this particular meeting to go to was that his idiot traitor of a twin wouldn’t be attending.
Even so, he was treating this meeting as if all of his worst enemies would be there. He was armed to the teeth, of course. Never would he attend a meeting with other nations without arming himself. Though they had driven straight to the meeting from the airport due to their loss of time, he’d managed to stop at a bathroom to change clothes and withdraw his weapons from his suitcase. Behind the somewhat less than dignified privacy of a bathroom stall, he’d concealed weapons underneath his business-wear, and by the time he’d left, he’d strapped a small sheathed knife to his left forearm and another to the belt of his pants—both out of sight. With any luck, he wouldn’t have to worry about trying to reach either of them, but if all else failed, there was always the small pistol he’d tucked into his briefcase. Loaded, of course.
By the time the car pulled up to the building, it was raining steadily, and the meeting was set to begin at any moment. Grumbling a quiet thanks to his driver, the Korean plucked his briefcase off the seat next to him and stepped out, slamming the door behind him. He made his way quickly up the walkway, aiming to get as little wet as possible.
Once inside the building, he found the meeting room easily enough, though the sight he was greeted with was not the greatest. It appeared, that already, some kind of conflict had occurred. A few chairs had been turned over, the rest not nearly as straight as you would expect them to be for a meeting. His eye was instantly drawn to the damned American lounging with his feet on the table as if he owned the place.
The North Korean, taking this as a challenge, smiled darkly at the blond haired man, a haughty hostility already showing in his eyes. Sang Kyu had sided with the communists in the Vietnam War, providing them with military assistance and advice on fighting western opponents. As far as he was concerned, the American’s failure to stop the communists in Vietnam only showed his true weakness. Based on what he’d heard, even America's own people were disgusted by such a weak display.
Such weakness had prompted the Great Leader, Kim Il Sung, to proclaim that a second attempt at reunifying the Korean Peninsula was finally possible. The Americans had been occupied as it was with Vietnam, and with the sorry excuse for a fight they’d been putting up down there, any troops they managed to spare for a fight in Korea would have been easily obliterated. The only thing that had kept a second attempt to unify the Peninsula from happening? China. With China still getting over the “after effects,” as they were calling it, of a cultural revolution, they would not be able to spare any aid to North Korea, and so the plan was grudgingly abandoned. That had been only a year ago.
And yet, here he was, facing the man who somehow managed to lose his sacred war on communism and still possess the largest stockpile of nuclear weapons on the planet…That would have to be fixed. In North Korea, they had been secretly tinkering with the possibility of developing their own atomic weapons, “inspired,” in a sense, by their neighbors, Russia and China. As a communist nation so close in relations to both (and at the moment, playing a dangerous balancing act in the rocky relationship between the two), Sang Kyu had felt it was his duty to carry out this legacy of advanced weaponry, and so, the idea had been tossed around by his government officials for a while, and research had finally begun.
His arrogant smile fading, the Korean’s attention shifted from the American to the steely glare on Belarus’s face. Sang Kyu began to walk slowly in that direction, and on closer inspection, found that the look was directed at his Hyung, Wang Yao. Such blatant disrespect she was showing! It occurred to him then, that it was probably her who was responsible for the disorderly arrangement of the room. Though he’d only been in the same room as her once, maybe twice, it had been enough to tell him that she was not the nicest of women. Based on her expression, she was definitely upset at something, and all signs said it was Yao. Sang Kyu’s lips drew back into a frown, and he took a seat next to the Chinese man protectively. If she tried anything, he would not let her get away with it. Intertwining his fingers together in front of him, he shot her a look that said death, his eyes shining with the same steely glint they took on on the battlefield. After a split second of this, he scanned the others around the table, his face now showing no sign of being angry at all.
“Well, well…” he muttered quietly to no one in particular. “What a fine day for a meeting indeed.”
