Strengths ► (
Perseverance – Raivis has had a hard life and his size doesn't make it any easier. But Raivis continues moving forward, believing that tomorrow will be better and that the next day could be even better than that. In the worst of times, Raivis can still find a smile if he really needs one.
Memorization and Recall – Raivis' particular type of intelligence is mainly based in direct memorization and recalling that information later. Since he reads a lot, he is almost a little encyclopedia.
Observant – When you have a parent that might over react about any little thing being wrong, you begin to notice all of those little details yourself. Raivis takes in his surroundings quickly and notices when something changes.
Kind – Raivis genuinely cares about people he shouldn't. He wouldn't wish pain upon his worst enemy and has trouble saying cruel words.
Not Intimidating – It's not all bad being little. People are often less guarded with what they believe is a little boy than with someone their own age. Even if they aren't deceived by that, his sweet eyes and modest attitude make it easier for people to speak with him.
Polyglot – Raivis is very competent when it comes to languages. He picks them up easily and is good at retaining whatever he is taught. He speaks the traditional tongue of his family's people as well as the more common tongue that everyone speaks.
Weaknesses ►
Unlucky – If some random accident is going to befall someone, it'll gravitate toward Raivis. He finds himself often in some kind of physical pain that had no reason to happen other than that he was in the area at the time.
Little – People don't often pick on those larger than them. Coupled with his other shortcomings, his lack of size has lead him to getting the short end of the stick throughout his life.
Shy – Sometimes, you have to stick up for yourself and in those moments, Raivis buckles. His lack of self confidence makes him very awkward when meeting new people and he often avoids situations that will put him into contact with large amounts of people at once. He is more likely to say what people want to hear than what he really feels inside.
Emotionally Dependent – Raivis relies on other people to qualify him. He needs to feel like he's valued and liked and doesn't have the mental tools to make himself feel good. He is more than willing to accommodate people he shouldn't just for short bursts of feeling of self worth.
Dreams ►
Owning his own Inn – Ever since he got a job working at one, he has dreamed of running his own. He wants to own a place that people are happy to come to and smile just by looking at their room. A place where the staff is like a little community in itself, almost like its own self contained town.
Not being cowardly – Every time Raivis gives in to someone else, he think about all of the things he should have said and the things he should have done. He feels like his life would be much easier if he just stuck up for himself, but in the moment he just never does.
Growing taller – Perhaps misguidedly or perhaps not, Raivis believes that if he were taller, people would respect him more and he'd have an easier time opening up and being himself.
Finding someone to lean on who won't later abandon him or mistreat him and who he can be his true self around – All he wants is one person who just appreciates him and knows him like no one else could ever know him. To have that one person who he could tell any secret to.
Fears ►
That he'll never find someone who will treat him as an equal – He's afraid that if he hasn't found them so far, there's no reason to assume such a person exists at all.
That his life will be totally insignificant – The life of a low wage worker doesn't seem to be one that leaves a big impression on the lives of others. Raivis would hate to think that'd he exist on Earth for no reason other than to have taken up space and provided food for worms.
That he'll he mauled by something scary – His mother died at the hands of an unknown monster and she was a lot tougher than he is. Being mauled to death seems like one of the worst ways to go and he often has nightmares about his own end by such hands.
That he's as good as he'll ever get – One of the scariest ideas is that he's already peaked. He hasn't grown in a while and there's not much room for promotions in his line of work.
Personality ►
Raivis is a very shy boy, preferring to stay within the same circle of friends that he has always had. The rest of the world ends up falling in to two distinct categories. The first is the people that scare or at least intimidate Raivis, which is the majority of people. To these people, he will often say things in a fashion that is much too blunt or even accidentally say something that is insulting. In these nerve racking situations, he has almost no ability to pick up on social cues or body language and won’t understand that he is making the other person upset until it is too late. These ‘too late’ moments often end with him running off.
The other type of person is more rare, but existent. When a new person doesn’t frighten him, he worries that he will ruin any chance at friendship by saying the wrong thing. This fear leads him to do a bad job of fully expressing himself, which can lead to him ruining the friendship anyway. As soon as the other person starts to show some sign of discontent, he will default to believing that he isn’t good enough for their friendship. When things start to sour he will sometimes tear up and will usually attempt to leave the area as quickly as possible.
Around the few friends he already has he is still shy, but is much more willing to communicate his feelings and concerns. It is mostly around these particular people that he will be calm and understandable. It usually takes a lot of work on the other person's side for a friendship to reach this level.
At times when Raivis is alone, he holds himself a lot more upright. He is actually quite confident in his ability to survive if no one else actively is trying to make it so that he won't. Any and all solo activities are quite well accomplished. It's when you add someone else to the equation that he will become shaky and mess up. Inside his head, he always thinks about saying all the right things and doing the coolest things. But when it comes time to do them in front of someone, he shies away from it. It could be said that he is a lion inside his own bubble and a kitten when someone else is involved.
History ►
Raivis barely knew his father growing up. His parents had tried for years to have a child but were never able to do so. With no one to help around the house or support them in their old age, his father was still working in shipping yards in his late forties, when Raivis was born against odds that got worse each day for his only slightly younger mother. Since working as cheap labor is about as lucrative as it sounds, his father worked long days and came back too tired to pay much attention to his child. When he would read to the boy, it was often him who fell asleep first. But the attention Raivis got from his mother was worse than the lack of attention he got from his father. She was verbally abusive and started to become physically abusive when Raivis got older.
Not knowing any other way to live, Raivis didn't realize other people didn't go through such things until he began to meet other children. The boy just lived day to day and did his best to lose himself in works of fiction. Some days the world inside the pages seemed more real than his life and for a while he would dissociate himself from his real world issues. When he turned eight, the abuse stopped but only because his mother's heart did as well. The authorities didn't care enough about a woman of her standing to look into it much, but they concluded some type of monster killed her as she was on her way home from buying groceries.
Raivis took on many of the responsibilities that his mother had handled. His father was unable to continue working regularly as he enterred his sixties. While the original plan was for Raivis to take over his position, at a little over twelve and incredibly scrawny Raivis wasn't able to do that kind of work. After a few months of living on scraps and a miracle, Raivis was able to get a job in one of the larger hotels in the area working as cleaning staff. It didn't pay much, but they had never had much money to begin with so his job sufficed. He continued working at the same hotel for years, though his position and responsibilities shifted around based on the needs of the business.
Monster, how should I feel? Creatures lie here, looking through the window…
Roleplay Sample ►
Raivis did not really know the man that he was going to see in Limbaži. He always wondered if he should feel bad about that, not knowing each and every one of his people. Some days, he thought they were better off not knowing what their representation looked like. He knew he was small. He had always been small, but a long time ago, so had most of the nations. He was no longer as brave as he had been when the flag of Courland symbolized a small but potent nation. But this man's letter had been clear. He wanted to see Raivis, he said he had something amazing to show him. If emotion could truly be conveyed in a letter, that letter would have been it. The man clearly believed in whatever it was he had.
The preteen nation knocked on the door, trying to be as firm as he could muster. It took almost no time for the answer to come. Like most men, he was taller than Raivis was. "Mr Baumanis... it's me..." he greeted, assuming the other man would know who he was coming. There was no way he would be what the other man wanted to see. Perhaps it was what would have been expected, but having that expectation confirmed couldn't have been a good thing. That's what it looked like anyway, as the man's seemed to size him up as he stood outside.
"Yes... yes I think this will do," Kārlis said, though clearly not really replying to the curly haired boy in front of him. He disappeared back in to his home. There was nothing else for Raivis to do but to follow after him. Whatever mystery awaited him was only a few steps away. He walked inside, closing the door behind him. The man was seated at a piano, the music sheet on the stand had clearly been modified a few times. "My boy, my Latvia, this is for you," he said as he began playing the new song. Raivis wouldn't even question the use of his name like that. It wasn't even an official thing... some nationalists had just started calling him that. But he liked it.
By the time the song was over, he realized that he had to wipe away some tears from eyes. Yes, Latvia. That was his name. He had gone by a lot of things throughout the years, but now, with this song, he knew which one was the real one. The one he wanted to be called forever. He hugged the bearded man, who was clearly taken off guard by the gesture. But soon, Latvia felt a hand stroking his hair. "That was beautiful... but won't Russia be upset about you using that name... my name like that?"
"I should hope so, let the anger carve the name into their memory. Mr. Galante, we are past due for a little respect." Raivis just stared up at the pianist. Maybe he was right... Just maybe.

Favorite Pairings ►
I love getting to pair Latvia with girls like Liechtenstein, Wy, Belarus or Seychelles, when it comes to yaoi with him I also love Latvia/Sealand and Estonia/Latvia. I refuse all pairings with characters too much older than him >_> When it comes to OCs and Latvia, I am fond of Latvia/Tobago, but then I also see Tobago as his adopted little sister(same with Gambia). I'm totally open to Latvia/NZ
Aside from Latvia pairings I like SwitzerlandxLiechtenstein, Spamano, UsxCanada, AustriaxHungary and HKIce
Oh, I also enjoy MexCherry Ice Cream, so I think I'll make that happen
